Somatic Therapy: Experience Freedom through Your Body, (Not in Spite of it)
Somatics has become one of my greatest passions, and I truly believe it’s one of the most accurate paths to freedom. The journey to freedom is deeply tied to how free our nervous system feels. If our nervous system is conditioned to live in stress and restriction, then that becomes our norm. Somatics helps us recondition our nervous system, allowing us to truly experience freedom in our bodies.
One of the most beautiful aspects of this journey is working with a therapist. The therapeutic relationship offers the joy of co-regulation, where the presence of another can help soothe and recondition our nervous system. Through this connection, we learn to experience safety, ease, and ultimately, a deeper sense of freedom.
For me, somatic work isn’t just about reducing symptoms or managing stress—it’s about reclaiming my full range of human experience. It’s about feeling grounded, connected, and alive. It’s about noticing the subtle sensations in my body, listening to what they have to say, and responding with curiosity and compassion rather than fear or judgment.
But I also want to name something important: being in touch with our bodies isn’t automatically safe for everyone.
For some, connecting to bodily sensations can feel overwhelming, triggering, or even terrifying—especially for those who have experienced trauma. The body can hold memories and feelings that were too much to process at the time they happened. So tuning into those sensations without support can sometimes bring up distress rather than relief.
This doesn’t mean somatic work isn’t for you. It just means that the path might need to be gentler, slower, and carefully guided. Working with a skilled somatic therapist can help create the safety and pacing needed to explore your body’s sensations without getting overwhelmed. Sometimes, the first step in somatic healing is simply learning that it’s okay not to feel certain things right away—and that honoring your own boundaries is part of the healing process.
Somatics has taught me that my body holds wisdom far beyond what my mind can reason out. It has shown me that healing doesn’t always come through talking things out, but through allowing my body to move, shake, breathe, and express the things it has held for too long.
When we engage with our bodies in this way, we start to break old patterns and create new pathways for safety, connection, and joy. We become more resilient, more present, and more capable of experiencing life fully—even when things are hard.
I love somatics because it reminds me that freedom is not an abstract concept—it’s something I can feel. It’s softness in my chest where there used to be tension. It’s breath flowing easily where it once felt stuck. It’s the ability to choose how I respond, rather than being trapped in automatic reactions.
If you’ve ever felt disconnected from your body, overwhelmed by stress, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to change, I invite you to explore somatic work. You deserve to feel at home in your body. You deserve freedom—not just in your mind, but in every cell of your being.
This is why I love somatics. Because it offers a path to true liberation—from the inside out.
